He's due another $5.45 million next year, and he is pitching to a 3.71 ERA this year. Last year was a down year and nothing more.

And I'm not worried about the ERA because once the Yankees lock up the division and enter October, they'll have Joba and Hughes further fortifying that unit.

For some reason Dave, you seem to think that through all the different levels of the minors, McAllister and Brackman are guys the Yankees can deal.

I'm telling you again, with the exception of Street, McAllister and Brackman won't be in the coversation for any of these relievers, especially because they'll be taking one a salary a team like the Indians wants to dump.

Trust me, the Yankees aren't going to be making a Jeff Bagwell-for-Larry Anderson deal.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13054517091231408114noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6454948283116207589.post-15190957359827008732009-06-16T22:51:46.448-04:002009-06-16T22:51:46.448-04:00Wait...you mean the same Betancourt who threw 71 i...Wait...you mean the same Betancourt who threw 71 innings in 2008 and had a 5.07 ERA? The same one that went 3-4 and had the same number of saves and blown saves (4)? The same one who is 34 and coming off an injury? The same one who has a post-season ERA of 5.40? By all means Aviv, please make sure the Yanks deal off McAllister or Brackman for that.Davehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06416608758785325468noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6454948283116207589.post-80857734060966304272009-06-16T22:18:38.400-04:002009-06-16T22:18:38.400-04:00Generally speaking, I wouldn't give up Brackma...Generally speaking, I wouldn't give up Brackman or McAllister, but I would give up Horne and any of the other guys I mentioned.

And if you don't think Betancourt is not worth trading for, it's a good thing you're not a GM. I mean, why would anyone want and established AL set-up man who in 367 games and 406 innings spanning seven seasons is 23-21 with a 3.27 ERA and 1.14 WHIP? And this guy will be available at the deadline.

Except for Bell, to get the other guys I mentioned the Yankees would not have to come close to even offering any of the prosects I mentioned.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13054517091231408114noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6454948283116207589.post-45463624931805645182009-06-16T17:19:15.687-04:002009-06-16T17:19:15.687-04:00Not even Kei Igawa's mother would take back Ke...Not even Kei Igawa's mother would take back Kei Igawa.

But you're kind of making my point here. You don't have a lot of layered talent, i.e. blue-chip, middle and long-shots. It's either feast or famine. Would you seriously want the Yankees to give up Brackman for someone like Scott Linebrink? Or Horne? Or McAllister? Those are some of your best guys. Outside of Street, I don't think anyone else you mentioned makes the trade worth making.Davehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06416608758785325468noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6454948283116207589.post-30910600616562041842009-06-16T10:49:21.761-04:002009-06-16T10:49:21.761-04:00Oh, Dave. First we're dealing with a tough economic climate, so for most of these guys, the Yankees aren't necessarily going to have to give up a top or major-league ready prospects, unless the other team is willing to eat some salary or take back a Kei Igawa, both unlikely. Street would be the biggest exception.

Secondly, while the Yankees don't have the embarassement of riches on the farm like the Sox do, they do have talent there.

They have a couple real good catching prospects in Jesus Montero, who was just promoted to Double A, and Austin Rome, who's hitting .288 with 8 homers in Tampa. The development of Francisco Cervelli could make the Yankees very willing to trade one.

There are some very strong pitching prospects, including top '06 pick Andrew Brackman and Alan Horne, both of whom are returning from Tommy John surgery, and Zach McAllister, who is lighting up Double A.

And there is more -- major league capable guys such as Sergio Mitre, and there Shelley Duncan, who has 20 homer at Triple A Scranton.

I'm not necessarily advocating the Yankees give up all these guys and strip the farm system to get a setup man, but the point is that there is talent and tradeable chips.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13054517091231408114noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6454948283116207589.post-67355075194935206282009-06-16T10:05:38.239-04:002009-06-16T10:05:38.239-04:00And who will you use as trade bait?
